Police visibility continue to result in desired outcomes in the Nyanga policing precinct.

Three firearms and rounds of ammunition were confiscated and suspects arrested during operations conducted in the area of Browns Farm

Two suspects aged 23 are due in Athlone Magistrates’ Court today following their arrest on Sunday morning. The two were arrested on armed robbery and possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.

The suspects had on Sunday at about 10:30 approached a woman and her threatened with a firearm, demanding her cell phone while she was walking in Mpolweni Street in Browns Farm. After the robbery the complainant saw Law Enforcement Officers and relayed what had just happened and also gave description of the suspects.

Shortly the Law Enforcement Officers spotted the suspects and chased them. One suspect was found in possession of an illegal firearm(Norrinco Star) with five live rounds of ammunition. The duo were arrested and detained.

A second firearm was recovered from a suspect yesterday afternoon in Browns Farm as well. The Law Enforcement officers were on patrol in Bristol Road when they spotted an unknown man trying to run away when he saw the police vehicle approaching. Members gave chase and caught the suspect. The suspect, 21 was found in possession of an illegal firearm (a 9MM Parabellum). Simultaneously another 16 year old suspect was also arrested in possession of seven live rounds hidden inside his jackets in Mqanqaba Street in Browns Farm area as well. He too tried to run but was caught by the members.

The duo are expected to appear in Athlone Magistrate Court on Thursday, 17 December 2020. The 21-year-old for the possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition. The 16-year-old for the illegal possession of ammunition.

A third firearm (Zip gun) was found abandoned. Members attached to crime prevention were on patrol in Browns Farm when they spotted the suspect dropping  something and ran away. Police recovered the firearm.

The station management applauded the members for their hard efforts to clean the streets of Browns Farm.
