SAFER FESTIVE SEASON OPERATIONS CONTINUE TO PUT ALLEGED OFFENDERS BEHIND BARS: POTCHEFSTROOM
As part of an ongoing Safer Festive Season Operations, Detectives in the province arrested 333 suspects during suspect raiding operation held between Tuesday, 15 until the early hours of Wednesday, 16 December 2020.
The suspects were arrested for various offences such as rape, assault with intent to do Grievous Bodily harm, (GBH) assault common, murder, theft, burglary, malicious damage to property, house robbery and contravention of protection order as well as many other offences. Of these suspects, 75 were nabbed for crimes against women and children while 30 were nabbed by Specialised Units such as stock theft, Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit and the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS).
The alleged offenders were arrested at all Districts as follows: 68 in Ngaka Modiri Molema, 62 in Bojanala Sub-District 1, 75 in Bojanala Sub-District 2, 61 in Dr Kenneth Kaunda and 37 in Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati. During the arrests, two suspects were found in possession of unlicensed firearms.
The arrested suspects are expected to appear in various courts in the province on Thursday, 17 December 2020.
The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena commended the detectives for making sure that those who transgress the law are brought to book. He said that the arrests came at the time when South Africa Police Service in the province working together with other law enforcement agencies, are tightening the grip on crime to ensure that members of the community and holiday makers are and feel safe during festive season and beyond.
